The Power of Early Learning: AART’s Impact by the Numbers

Every hour spent in the classroom, every book handed out, and every volunteer who donates their time makes a difference. At AART, early childhood education can be a game changer. It gives children the tools to start school strong and opens doors for their futures.

The numbers below tell the story of our mission in action: helping young children build the skills they need, supporting families every step of the way, and bringing communities together through the power of early learning.

Why This Matters

Early childhood education lays the foundation for everything that follows—from kindergarten success to lifelong learning. Every number above represents a child gaining confidence, a parent feeling empowered, and a stronger community.

However, not all children have access to these opportunities. In Virginia, preschool is not part of the public school system. While some publicly funded programs exist, many working families earn too much to qualify but not enough to afford private preschool. That’s where AART steps in.

Consider the facts:

Early childhood education programs can deliver a 13% return on every dollar invested.

29% of Northern Virginia’s low-income children attend preschool, compared to 67% of their higher-income peers—the largest income-based gap in the country.

Children without preschool experience start kindergarten 12 to 14 months behind in pre-literacy and language skills.
